The Strøm Festival is well over, I know, but I just want to say a little something before closing the chapter entirely:

Last year we started a new tradition called 1st Hit Wonders. To give ear to new danish artists that we thought deserved some spotlight, we dedicated the first hour of the program in the park to a musical marathon: 4 artists in an hour, 15 minutes each. They were to show us, and the audience, why we should keep an eye out for them in the future.

Since the idea was mine and my fellow curators are busy people, it ended up being me booking the whole program. I don’t mind this at all, but I hope that the concept will grow in the future and represent the musical tastes of the others as well.

However, I made a promo mix of all this years 1st Hit Wonders and it came out as if I booked them to fit together in a mix…

Solveig Sandnes, one of the most beautiful voices in DK, has initiated a cross country project between female musicians in Mali and in Denmark. Even though we haven’t met, yet, we have succeeded in a bunch of very different and very beautyful (if I may say so) handful of tracks which are a collaboration between the african and the danish artists. The name of the project is Konokone, which is a word play over the danish word Kone, that means wife or lady and the malinki word Kono which means songbird.

Today Doussou Koulibaly and Mouneissa Tandina arrived to Denmark and this next week we will have a series of concerts and release an EP (HVORFOR GRÆDER NATTENS FUGLE) presenting tracks from the forthcoming Album. The members of Konokone are:

KONOKONES malian members will also be playing at KONG in Malmø the 8th of sept, at Soupanatural at CPH the 9th as well as at the opening of Africa50 at Huset the 10th.

Theres nothing better than a great DJ mix to make the soundtrack of your day. I find that the mixes I make at home tend to be somewhat mellow and melancholic if I dont make an effort. Thats not bad, not at all, I actually prefer the softer mixes myself. But once in a while its great to pre-party with something that doesnt make you want to cry.

It is extremely exciting to write this my first blog post. I have been wanting to do this for a long time – create a blog and share the things going on in my musical life with you.

Till now I have had a very beautiful website that was a serious hassle to update since it was locked within a flash code that I really didn’t have the skills to mess with. That was of course a serous creative barrier and I had a hard time keeping the site alive. This way is much more simple and all the beautyful drawings wandering about the site is lost, but I will be able to be much more direct and spontaneous and that I am looking forward to!

Enough about that. This is the real reason Im doing this: MUSIC. My own and others. If you know about me already you can skip reading now and get straight to the music. If not then you might like to know a little bit about me:

I started out DJing in 2002 and have steadily built a name for my self in the Clubscene in Copenhagen. First I was a part of the performance and party collective Dunst, which was a gathering of crazy and cool outlaws in the non mainstream queer scene. We did the greatest parties Copenhagen has seen yet and also went abroad to share ourselves with Europe.

Even though I have held residencies at the biggest clubs in Copenhagen and even at ultraviolet in Oslo, it wasnt untill October 2010 that I decided to plunge in and make msuic and DJing my life for real. I guess I was too scared and playing it safe so that if I failed, I could always say “yeah, but if I had done it for real, it would have been different!”. you all know how that story ends! Now I am risking all that I can and I just wish I had done it sooner, but Im a late bloomer.

In January 2010 I released my first single on Nightology records. It is called “Ven Igen” which directly translates into “Friend Again”. It is a melancholic disco-tech track that whispers of jealousy, defeat and forgiveness. The National Danish Radio has not taken it into rotation, which is of course sad, but it is not the end of the world and theres a remix package on the way with a bunch of cool and beautiful remixes.
